How do you know if you have plastic in your urine?

Plastic, much like sugar, seems to be in absolutely EVERYTHING! I was shocked when I came to realize that there was plastic in so many everyday consumables. Did you know that 93% of Americans have plastic in their urine ?! [1]

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a hormone disruptor and is still found in many plastic products such as drink bottles, childrens sippy cups, plastic takeaway containers, cling film and the lining in some canned foods For years, such awareness has been raised, there have been many public campaigns made against plastic containing bisphenol-A (BPA), a highly controversial plastic additive, due to strong concerns about the adverse health effects in humans that can be caused by the exposure to synthetic estrogen over short and prolonged periods of time.

But my drink bottle says that it’s BPA free?

Why BPA free plastic isn’t necessarily safe

So you have invested in a BPA drink bottle – good for you! Is it glass, or metal? Or is it still plastic and just states that it’s BPA free? Items that claim to be free of BPA can still often contain other chemicals that behave in much the same way as BPA did in the first place. If the product is still made from plastic, chances are that the chemical are still leaching into your foods and drinks. In a recent study, a compound found in plastics called “pthalates” was linked to a reduction of 20% in male fertility.  [2]

Best to stick to glass I say!

Here is my favorite glass water bottle, which can be purchased on Amazon :

FEATURES:

  • NO CONTAMINANTS: Leadless, non-toxic, BPA-free, BPS-free, phthalate-free, cadmium-free, and composed of 100% high-density borosilicate glass and uncontaminated organic materials. Borosilicate glass is chemically unreactive and it will never impart flavors or leach chemicals into your beverage like plastic or stainless steel alternatives
  • SAFE: Kablo complies with strict Federal and State standards for undecorated glassware. This also includes FDA Lead and Cadmium guidelines and California’s Proposition 65.
  • AIRTIGHT & LEAKPROOF: The exterior of our cap is 304 stainless steel, for the interior we use BPA-free polypropylene (pp#5) as it does not contain ‘Bisphenol A’ (BPA), the chemical discussed above that leaches from certain types of plastic and has been linked to various diseases. Polypropylene has no known leaching characteristics and is more durable than other types of plastic. The lining in the cap is 100% silicone (and removable for easy cleaning) to prevent leaks, and is also BPA, BPS and phthalate free
  • FITS CUP HOLDERS: (My favorite feature!) These cute water bottles fit into standard size cup holders in your car!
